Who the MaxxECU GEN2 TRACK is for
- V8 builds. MaxxECU designed and market GEN2 TRACK explicitly around V8 — 8 sequential cylinders, dual lambda so you can measure each bank independently, dual knock so you can listen to each bank.
- High-boost engines. The 550 kPa MAP sensor covers 4.5 bar / 65 PSI, versus 3 bar on every GEN1 unit. If you are past 3 bar on a GEN1 ECU you are already running an external sensor.
- Methanol and ultra-rich applications. Native Bosch LSU 5.2 support handles mixtures that LSU 4.9 struggles to read.
- Data-driven teams. 8 GB of internal logging recording every one of the 2000+ ECU channels at 1000 Hz is a different category of data from the 8 MB on GEN1. Combined with the 3-axis accelerometer, this is real post-session analysis.
- Exposed installations. IP68 sealing and Superseal 1.0 connectors as standard — no separate waterproof variant needed.
- Tuners who want to write their own strategies. Lua scripting allows user-defined control logic and custom CAN communication.
- Anyone tuning at the track. WiFi connection to MTune means no cable to the ECU.
What GEN2 changes over GEN1
IP68 waterproofing as standard
Black powder-coated aluminium enclosure, IP68 rated, with two USB-C ports under rubber covers. On GEN1 this required the specific H2O variant of RACE.
WiFi and Bluetooth built in
WiFi connects to MTune on a PC for wireless tuning and diagnostics. Bluetooth connects to MDash on Android. Both antennas are integrated, and there is an LED indicator for power, errors and boot status.
Dual wideband lambda with LSU 5.2
Two independent wideband channels, natively supporting the newest Bosch LSU 5.2 sensor while remaining compatible with LSU 4.9 and 4.2. On a V8 that means per-bank lambda without an external controller.

Smarter pulse inputs
Six pulse inputs accepting VR or digital signals, two with selectable 5 V/12 V supply, all with configurable pull-ups, plus advanced diagnostics in MTune's built-in oscilloscope. Sixteen analog inputs with selectable pull-ups. Everything samples at 2000 Hz.
8× larger tables and higher processing power
Tables are eight times larger for finer resolution across the whole operating range, and an ARM dual-core CPU performs fuel and ignition calculations 3000 times per second (GEN1 does 2000).

User-defined strategies, custom CAN messages and effectively open-ended expandability. This is the single most future-proof feature on the platform.
Protected I/O
Every input and output is protected against reverse polarity, overvoltage and short circuit. On a race car being rewired by hand, that matters more than it sounds.
Your existing tune still works
GEN2 is fully compatible with existing GEN1 tunes, and uses the same MTune and MDash software. Upgrading from a RACE or SPORT is not a start-from-scratch exercise.
How EGT works on the GEN2 TRACK
This is the one specification that catches people out, so it is worth being precise.
The GEN2 TRACK's input list contains no TYPE-K thermocouple inputs. RACE has 8, PRO has 12 and GEN2 RACE has 8 at 200 Hz; the TRACK has none.
That does not mean the TRACK cannot run EGT. The engine protection functions — EGT fuel correction and EGT power cut — are present in the firmware exactly as they are on every other MaxxECU. What you do is feed each thermocouple through a 0–5 V EGT amplifier into one of the 16 analog inputs. The ECU then treats it like any other analog channel.
The trade-off is cost and channel budget. Each EGT channel consumes one analog input and one amplifier, so a full V8 setup means eight amplifiers and half your analog inputs gone. An Expansion Module adds 12 more analog inputs if you need the room back.
Whether that works out cheaper than stepping up to GEN2 RACE depends entirely on how many EGT channels you actually want. For one or two channels on a turbo manifold, amplifiers on a TRACK are the sensible answer. For eight cylinders of per-cylinder monitoring, do the maths both ways — ask us and we will price it.

Should you upgrade or downgrade?
Upgrade to GEN2 RACE if…
You need any of these, and TRACK does not have them:
- Native EGT inputs — GEN2 RACE has 8 TYPE-K inputs sampled at 200 Hz, wired straight in. On TRACK each EGT channel costs an analog input plus a 0–5 V amplifier, so 8 cylinders means 8 amplifiers.
- More than 8 sequential cylinders — GEN2 RACE does 12.
- More than 8 injectors — GEN2 RACE has 16 injector outputs and 12 ignition outputs, enough for staged injection on a big-power build.
- More I/O — 24 analog inputs and 8 pulse inputs versus 16 and 6.
- More logging — 16 GB versus 8 GB.

Downgrade to RACE if…
You want 8 thermocouple EGT channels wired straight in without the GEN2 premium. MaxxECU RACE runs the same 8 sequential cylinders with 8 native EGT inputs, 2 knock inputs and a single wideband, on the mature GEN1 platform with a 3 bar MAP sensor. It is heavier (880 g) and needs the H2O variant for waterproofing.
Downgrade to SPORT if…
Six sequential cylinders is enough, you do not need knock control, and you want the smallest sensible spend on a capable drive-by-wire ECU. MaxxECU SPORT keeps E-Throttle, Bluetooth, peak-and-hold drivers and a built-in wideband.
Coming from PRO?
MaxxECU PRO is the GEN1 flagship and has more raw channel count than GEN2 TRACK — 12 sequential cylinders, 16 injectors, 12 native EGT inputs, 30 GP outputs. What to buy alongside a MaxxECU GEN2 TRACK

- MaxxECU Expansion Module — this pairs especially well with GEN2. Up to four modules are supported on GEN2 ECUs with pre-defined configuration (only one on GEN1), and update speed over CAN is 0.5 ms on GEN2 against 2 ms on GEN1. Each module adds 12 analog inputs, 4 pulse inputs, 4 × 12 V outputs at 5 A and 4 H-bridges. Those analog inputs are also where amplified EGT channels can live if you are running thermocouples through amplifiers.

Frequently asked questions
Does MaxxECU GEN2 TRACK have EGT inputs?
Not natively. The TRACK has no TYPE-K thermocouple inputs in its spec list. It can still run EGT: feed each thermocouple through a 0–5 V EGT amplifier into one of the 16 analog inputs, and the EGT fuel correction and EGT power cut functions work as normal. The trade is one analog input and one amplifier per cylinder. If you want 8 channels wired straight in, GEN2 RACE has 8 TYPE-K inputs at 200 Hz.
What is the difference between MaxxECU GEN2 TRACK and GEN2 RACE?
